Government Relations and Advocacy

The External Relations team’s Government Relations officer is responsible for advocating Upstate Medical University’s priorities at the federal, state and local levels of government, and is the system’s official point of contact for all government officials and their staff. The Government Relations Officer:

• Represents Upstate Medical University with federal, state, and local government officials and staffers.
• Speaks on behalf of Upstate Medical University to public officials, in pursuit of strategic public policy priorities and goals.
• Coordinates all visits between elected officials, government staff, and members of the Upstate Medical University community.
• Serves as Upstate Medical University’s liaison with state and national trade associations representing hospitals, universities and academic medical centers.

Prior to all interactions with government officials that are not explicitly organized by the Office of External Relations, individuals should discuss their planned purpose and goals with the Assistant Vice President of Government Relations, Jonathan Archey.
